CROCLIST: Alligator wants to hibernate

Ok, I received some information off list that made it pretty clear that the
conditions I mentioned keeping my alligator in during the winter months (50-60
air temps, 10-20 water temps) are inadequate. Now that it's been made clear
I want to do whatever it takes to make things right. It was suggested that a
filter with heaters inside it be placed in the tub for heating the water to
around 70-80 degrees, but if I place anything in the water with the alligator
it attacks the object/s until they're broken or removed from the water. It's
been my experience that dangling heat lamps over the water don't heat the
water much at all, unless the air temperatures outside the water are already in
the 80s or 90s.
For getting air temps to 70-80 I'm fresh out of ideas. Heat lamps over the
ground need to be placed so close to the ground to create a basking area at
these temps that they fall in range of the alligator attacking them. I keep the
rooms thermostat turned up as high as it'll go, (90) but it doesn't heat the
room to even 60. There must be something out there that can be used but I'm
not aware of, so if anyone has any suggestions, please help.
