You guys are brutal. Grow up. The guy is dead for christmas sake. I am on
this list to get a different/educated perspective on gators. Their life and
what not. I don¹t post much. Don¹t live my life around crocs and such. Just
live in the middle of gator country. But this display is what I expect from
a yahoo list. Not this one. That photo is not new just the angle is
different. Watched it last night on animal planet. you know that channel
that airs Steve Irwins shows, the ones that get to the millions of americans
that are now extremely interested in gators, reptiles and other vilified
animals of this earth.
Thank you steve that was a nice post you put out about him.
This is what you should be focusing on.... So what if he wasn¹t educated. He
did more for gators in the public than most ever will.
----------------
I wasn't a fan of Steve's show, but as a zoo keeper in a Reptile House, I
will say that Irwin's positive impact on the public is of a magnitude that I
can't find words for. Not a week goes by that I don't marvel at how much
kids know about the animals in our building. When I ask how they knew a
particular fact, the answer is always the same, usually by a parent: "He/she
watches the Croc Hunter every time he's on!" The parents watch with the
kids, and the knowledge and enthusiasm level they have for the natural world
is really impressive sometimes. Steve used that most powerful of all tools,
entertainment, to make herps and other animals cool first, then interesting,
and valuable. We do a public croc feeding every Sunday, and people often
wait to talk to me after, because they want to show me what they know. I
can't imagine anything more valuable than to educate and enlighten the
quantity of people that his show reaches. Say what you want about the man;
his legacy speaks for itself.
